Inform. Inspire. Engage.

Save Time. Improve Efficiency. Increase your Impact.

Work is busy enough and management tasks are in no short supply.

When it comes to communication, you know what you want to say. But you need someone to ensure you articulate your message in the most powerful way possible.

You need a strategic thought partner who can take the vision and execute it.

You need high-quality content that will drive traffic and engagement from month to month.

You need a go-to writer.

You need a versatile writer. An efficient editor. A strategic thought partner.

You wish you had a “jack of all trades” on hand.

Not all the time—you don’t need them all the time.

  • Sometimes, you need someone who can dig through research and make insights about data simple and easy to understand.

  • Sometimes, you wish someone could produce an approachable, lighter-fare blog on a related topic area the following week.

  • Sometimes, you wish there could be just one person who could help you prepare your remarks for that big speech or presentation and also craft a white paper, email sequences, or advocacy platform.

  • You have that new product launch coming up. You wish you had an extra set of eyes and skills to ensure the marketing copy is engaging and powerful.

No more orienting multiple people to your mission, strategy, and tone.

Think of the time saved!

Just think:

One relationship.

One email.

One person with an ongoing and ever-deepening understanding of your work, your needs, your voice, and your audience. One expert writer with experience connecting their piece of the work to the greater whole.

No more managing six different contractors for six different kinds of copy and content.

Ah, sweet efficiency!

I’d love to help you realize a streamlined, cohesive dream of a workflow. I’ll bring my diverse set of skills and subject matter expertise to your mission and brand. Together, we’ll bring your best work to the world.

Stakeholder Engagement

Systems, Strategy, and Advocacy

Areas of Expertise

  • I hold a master’s in public policy with a focus on education policy. I’ve worked with a variety of organizations on everything from messaging and stakeholder engagement in food equity, to building an advocacy platform for early childhood education. Trained in systems thinking, I see the interconnections between policy areas and can provide insights into the way we think about, talk about, and take action in a particular space.

  • With a background in developmental psychology, I write and edit copy and content for children’s and young adult literature, toys, parenting, and more. As a parent of three young children myself, I bring formal education, lived experience, and my own personal interest to every project.

  • As a former education data and policy analyst with research experience in learning and motivation, I am well-versed in many topic areas related to education. Curriculum. Philosophies. Parent and caregiver engagement. Resource equity. Supportive technologies, products, and practices. Advocacy, research, and policy. I cover it all!

  • Serving various research and communications functions over the past several years, I understand the importance of crafting a clear and well-substantiated platform. And that the work is iterative and multifaceted! Need help developing a specific case for support? Or maybe you’re ready to build an entirely new advocacy platform? Either way, I can help you flesh out the concept, articulate the research, and brainstorm ways forward given the current policy climate in your issue area.

  • I’m an avid reader of many genres, both non-fiction and fiction. I delight in the endless ways words can be put together to educate and inspire a specific audience. Known in my personal network for a particular love and knowledge of children’s literature, parenting and family “self-help” books, and young adult fiction, I’m regularly asked to consult, edit, or write in these areas. I bring my scientific understanding of literacy development, my knowledge of parenting philosophies and trends, and my boots-on-the-ground, keen awareness of what kids and caregivers enjoy reading. Need help with structure and language? Or a sharp editing eye, or insightful and honest reviews? I can help, no matter where you are in the process.

While these are the areas I know well, I’m a lifelong learner always ready to deep dive into new territory. I welcome the opportunity to broaden my knowledge of other topics and industries to create an informative and compelling final product. Let’s explore the possibilities together!

A Selection of Past Work

What you’ll hear from past clients…

  • “As the president/CEO of a thriving non-profit for the past 20 years, I have engaged with many consultants. It can often be a challenge to come to a deep understanding of the scope and complexity of our work in food equity. Hayley Butler was an exception. She was able to grasp the depth of our work and add value through her experiences, perspectives, and passions. We collaborated on everything from speeches to a messaging catalog, a stakeholder report, and even a letter or two. Hayley was responsive, creative, and laser-focused on our scope of work. I’m excited about her venture and all the good she will do for the world, and thrilled for any organization that gets the opportunity to work with her."

Bridget Clark-Whitney, President and Founding CEO

  • “First and foremost, I still brag today on the beautiful work Hayley did for us and have not found anyone remotely as good or as talented. I was truly impressed with both her ability to turn a project request around immediately and the quality of work provided. She took my vision and placed it perfectly in a report format, going above and beyond what was expected with her research and final presentation.”

Elizabeth Washington, Director of Grants and Evaluation

  • "Hayley's exceptional expertise in copywriting, ediitng and research--fueled by her background in public policy--sets her apart. Her creative approach, professionalism, and ability to capture the essence of my client's mission were remarkable. I would highly recommend her for any organizational needs as the best writer and researcher I've ever worked with."

    Afton DeVos, Principal Executive Consultant

  • As a nonprofit with a wide variety of programs and services, we struggled to define and clearly message our mission and vision. After working on our language internally, and exploring work with several external teams, we still felt that our messaging failed to capture the breadth and depth of our work in a way that was accessible to the wider community. Hayley worked with our team through a series of interviews. Very quickly, Hayley was able to ask targeted questions, drive our team to clarity, and synthesize stories, research, and perspectives into a new tagline, vision statement, and Messaging Catalog. The final result was a powerful tool that balances academic research and theories, client testimonials, impact statistics, and condensed & snappy language that makes it easy for our team to share compellingly about our work.
